Your new lettering decal
1st Step : Dividing the decal
Your new decal is created through a special printing process known as DTF - Direct Transfer Film. It prints a special paint-like ink directly to an adhesive film in layers to build the lettering up for a more tactile feel. Another transfer layer of film is then applied over the printing so that the new printing can be kept as printed when the release film is peeled away to expose the adhesive bottom.

Since the top switch is not a completely flat surface with the rocker button in the middle, dividing the decal into 3 separate sections makes alignment and application much easier. Simply cut the decal into 3 sections so that the lettering / icon can align directly on top of the original positions on the switch.

This step should be handled in an EXTREMELY thorough fashion! The switch surfaces need to be completely clean and free of any oils, dirt, residues etc for the lettering to adhere properly and release from the transfer film to the switch as well as stay firmly adhered to the switch. Failure to do so will cause the lettering to pull the dirt onto it's adhesive layer and not be able to adhere to the switch properly which can allow the lettering to flake off in pieces or whole sections to fall off. A good degreaser followed by an alcohol wipe down is recommended.

Starting at the top, peel the adhesive film off the back of the UP lettering. Position the decal so the UP covers directly on top of the original position on the top framing of the switch. You may still have some of your original lettering visible or the shadow to help position the new decal. If not, use the black alignment borders on the decal to help center the UP lettering on the frame. Once you have the lettering in position, press it down onto the switch LIGHTLY so it holds in place. This is so if you miss with the alignment, you can gently pull it off and realign it. Follow the same procedure with the car icon and then the DOWN lettering.

If you are happy with your positioning of all 3 decals, you can then press FIRMLY across the top release film on just the area with the lettering / icon, not the empty space or black alignment aid lines. A smooth plastic stylus or the rounded cap of a ball point pen will help to firmly press all the lettering onto the switch without nicking or shifting the film. Once you've gone over all the lettering, you can then slowly peel back the release film. If a letter stays stuck to the film, gently lower the film back into position and give that letter a firm pressing all around to help it better adhere to the switch and re-try peeling the release film.

If you successfully followed the prior steps, all your lettering should be applied. With the release film removed, you can press the lettering down firmly some more with the flat of your finger to insure it's set to the switch. Avoid nicking the lettering with anything like a finger nail, ring, key etc. With normal usage, the lettering should last a long time with the lettering adhesive getting stronger over time to resist possible chipping or flaking.
